Punctuality, what?

I don’t know about you but being on-time is an elusive concept for me people always sometimes. Fabrica’s come out with an interesting concept where the minute hand on the clock tricks you into fast forwarding three minutes ahead…trippy.

Sarah’s work is crazy playful and creative with how she uses different media and textiles. Click the image to check out her site. For some reason it reminds me of elementary school crafts. Must be the felt.

Wooden iPod Mini

Posted by Michael | woodcraft | Wednesday 24 June 2009 10:48 pm

The creator, only known as Josh from Australia, has taken apart the membrane of an old iPod mini and revamped it using natural wood and screws.

“Forum member Josh, from Australia, took the guts of his first iPod mini and handmade a new case for the device using Australian red cedar, Camphor Laurel for the working Click Wheel, brass plates, and brass screws—the design requires no glue, and is held together exclusively by the screws, save for the Click Wheel which is attached to the sensor via double-sided tape.”

“Wanting to go further and create a complete set of accessories, Josh also gutted an iTrip mini he had on hand, building a new light red cedar case for the unit that matches the new dimensions and body of the wooden iPod mini. Finally, he gutted his original iPod mini dock, re-encasing the components in a piece of Camphor Laurel wood, with a slightly larger opening to accommodate the dimensions of the wooden mini.”

Pink Gundam

Someone has created this evil-lishly pink, deviant son-of-a-gundam, but not to say that the embellishments on the body weren’t strategically well-placed…..but seriously – WOOF.

The purpose of this project was to juxtapose the princesses of children’s fairy tales with real issues women face in the real world.

So ladies, keep it real- ’cause it’s all a lie!

DEADLINE

Posted by Michael | Art, Video | Wednesday 17 June 2009 11:34 am

DEADLINE is a stop-motion film created by Bang-yao Liu for his senior project at Savannah College of Art and Design. He uses an insane amount of post-its (not as much as this though) to create this short clip. Just imagine all the tedious work and accuracy of putting each post-it in its place to create this pixelated-like film… o.0!

“Where my idea comes from is that every time when I am busy, I feel that I am not fighting with my works, I am fighting with those post-it notes and deadline. I manipulating the post-it notes to do pixel-like stop motion and there are some interactions between real actor and post-its.”

For those of you who don’t know who Banksy is:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banksy

Banksy pulls off his most audacious stunt yet… a secret exhibition in Bristol museum. What apparently happened is that he snuck into the Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery and switched around over 100 different artifacts with his own work. Done all under the cover of secrecy.

Here are a couple pictures from the exhibit:

It’s all love – Frank Gehry for the Art Gallery of Ontario

Posted by Michael | Art, Design | Sunday 14 June 2009 10:28 am

From what we’ve seen at dundas and mccaul stretching out towards the west is a beautiful, grand structure comprised of wood, steel and glass that is the new face of the AGO. Inside the gallery is a whole other look on it’s own. We owe it to Frank Gehry for utilizing his talent and panache, recreating the AGO and leaving an imprint in this city that we can all truly appreciate and admire.

“It is fitting that the 70-year-old Frank Gehry ended up re-envisioning the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) for his native city of Toronto. As a boy, Gehry visited the AGO often, and the effect of those visits on him and his future career was important. Gehry has lived most of his life in the U.S., but the AGO remake allows Toronto to reap some of the benefits of his massive talent before it’s all too late.”

Wicked stuff, Mr. Gehry

Tetris Pots

French product designer Stephanie Choplin created this fun idea of making plant pots in the shape of tetris blocks.

“Born as a simple experiment during the ceramic course in the Estonian Academy of Arts, Stephanie’s initial idea was to personally carry out the model, the mould, the molding, coloring and cooking. Unfortunately the model was too big with complex molding of 2 parts and the final result was not satisfying. So what’s left is the brilliant idea, illustrated in 3D models below, waiting for go-getting production.”

Some classic Sesame Street magic for nostalgia’s sake. Can you believe this was 27 years ago? That’s older than the MBM team.
